American diamonds are synthesized diamonds and another name for Cubic Zircona. They are relatively cheaper and have less resale value as well. But they are usually set in 22k Gold and can be good alternatives for real diamonds. They can also be set in other cheaper metals and later given gold finish to look like real gold jewellery.
Why Is It Called American Diamond
Cubic Zircona is called American Diamond since it was first manufactured in US in large quantity. The technical name for American Diamond is Cubic Zirconia (CZ) since American Diamond is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2).
American Diamond vs Real Diamond
Synthetic diamonds can be easily differentiated from the real ones. The first most prominent difference can be found by its shine. Read diamonds shine brighter than synthetic ones since they have high refractive index that makes the light reflect internally repeatedly which in turn makes them sparkle. Diamonds are also harder and not easily scratch unlike the synthetic ones which scratch easily.
