What is German Silver?
It is a white alloy of Copper, Zinc and Nickel and does not contain any trace of silver. Even though it does not contain any silver, it is still termed as silver due to its silver color which was imitated by Germans, since silver was an expensive metal.
Why chose Silver?
Though pure silver is expensive, the metal is most prefered because of its resale value. Pure silver cannot be used in its original form, hence mixed with other metals such as copper, zinc or silicon to prepare silver articles.
German Silver is used in articles like silver plated tableware due to their hard, tough nature. They are also economical, thus making them a better option than silver.
